Can Westies swim?

Yes! Swimming is not for everyone, but our Westies adore the water and are happy to go for a swim. We conducted a poll on Instagram to inquire if other Westies also enjoy a refreshing dip in the water on a hot summer day. The results came as a surprise to us, 72% of our followers with Westies say they also enjoy swimming!

We are cautious when bringing our Westies for a swim to make sure they have a collar and leash on just in case they swim out too far and need assistance. Life-jackets are also recommended for adventures in deeper water or while on a boat for additional safety.

Along the Northern Shores of Lake Superior the water is crystal clear and our Westies enjoy a cool dip and sip from the second largest fresh water lake in the world! Grateful for the clean water we are reminded that many other bodies of water may pose a health risk for your Westie to drink from. Please be mindful of the water quality when allowing your Westie to drink from any lakes and never allow them to drink from puddles of water which may pose health risks.
